Use literature to enrich the study of U.S. history! Annotated bibliographies include titles that reflect themes and issues of the chapter and period. The books were chosen for their potential to engage the imagination, elicit emotional responses, challenge thinking from new perspectives, stimulate an interest in further reading and learning and create opportunities for students to relate events from the past to current issues. Eight chapters include suggested activities and discussion prompts. Chapters are: Colonial Times, The Revolutionary War, Westward Expansion and Frontier Life, The Civil War, Industrialization, City Life and World War I, The Great Depression, World War II and The Fifties and Sixties.
